Shayanna Jenkins, the ex-fiancée of late former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, addressed the "cruel" jokes targeted at him during the live Netflix event, The Roast Of Tom Brady, Sunday (May 5) night.

"It’s sad that I’m trying to raise my children in such a cruel world," Jenkins told TMZ Sports.

Shaynna noted that despite Hernandez, who was convicted in the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd, having been dead for seven years, her daughter is now 11 and will likely see what is said about her late father.

Hernandez was a decorated collegiate tight end at the University of Florida and played for the Patriots for three seasons before being arrested in connection to the shooting death of Lloyd in 2013. The Connecticut native was found guilty of murder in the first-degree, which carried a sentence of life in prison without parole, as well as five additional firearm charges.

Hernandez was found by correction officers hanging with bed sheets from a window in his cell at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Lancaster, Massachusetts, on April 19, 2017. The former football player's cause of death was referenced by both comedian Nikki Glaser and former Patriots teammate Julian Edelman, while his conviction was acknowledged during Brady's response roast at the end of the ceremony.

The 3-hour long roast covered several other controversial topics including Brady's divorce from supermodel Gisele Bündchen and her new relationship with her jiu-jitsu trainer Joaquim Valente, his $30 million losses in Crypto.com, the Patriots' alleged involvement in the Spygate and Deflategate controversies, and the retired quarterback's relationship with longtime head coach Bill Belichick, who also participated in the event.
